Union between watchmakers and car manufacturers has already become classic. For instance, Ferrari has had partnership with two renowned watchmaking companies - with Girard-Perregaux between 1993 and 2004 and with Panerai since 2004. The last one resulted in creating the Ferrari GMT Automatic.

The design of the timepiece is strongly influenced by the interior and exterior of Ferrari cars, echoing the features of their bodywork and engine. The convex shape of the watch’s bezel provides for aerodynamic properties which are so important for a sports car like Ferrari.

The dial of the watch bears the Cavallino Rampante — or prancing stallion — emblem at 12 o’clock. The same trademark is engraved on the case back of the timepiece. The Ferrari GMT Automatic features a 24-hour scale inscribed around the watch’s rim. Together with the arrow-shaped hand, they tell what Greenwich mean time is. In addition to this, the dial features a subsidiary small seconds sub-dial at 9 o’clock and a date display window at 3 o’clock.

This Panerai Ferrari watch is powered by a clever automatic movement which is wound by the weights inside the case which spin as the wearer of the timepiece moves.

There is only a downside to the Ferrari GMT Automatic – it is extremely difficult to obtain. Because of the limited number of the timepieces produced, the watch is not even displayed in the Panerai stores. The ability to pay the price suggested by the watchmaker also is not a determining factor – the number of those who can afford the Ferrari GMT Automatic exceeds the number of timepieces. Distributing the watch, the brand gives preference to watch aficionados who can appreciate the art of horology.
